When Sampa the Voice released her debut single "Mwana Wa Mulundu" in 2016, radio stations told her it was "too slow for Zambian clubs." She didn't argue. She didn't start beef. She went back to the studio.
Eight years later, she has 2 ZAMAs, a sold-out show at the Lusaka Playhouse, and a new role mentoring young female artists in Matero.
On her lowest moment: "2019. I had no label, no booking, and my producer moved to South Africa. I sat in my mother's living room and cried."
On who helped her up: "My mother said, 'You don't need a label. You need a plan.' The next week, I started selling my music on WhatsApp. One message at a time."
